Play-Doh Touch Shape to Life Studio

For me Play-Doh has always been about fuelling the imagination. It sparks creativity to be able to create absolutely anything that you can think of. Sitting together and moulding snowmen, dogs, cars, trains and bunnies has been a fun activity that my daughter and I could enjoy together. The fact that Play-Doh has so many other benefits, like enhancing fine motor skills and developing hand-eye co-ordination, is also a great reason to put Play-Doh time on your activity list.

Play-Doh Touch Shape to Life Studio is the new kid on the block, it allows you to bring your Play-Doh creations to life in the most incredible way. We have had so much fun with it, we even played it after the kiddies’ bedtime, and we stayed up way too late once we had started our interactive adventure!

This is the first app-enhanced Play-Doh experience, and being able to combine hands-on play with digital play is a game changer in my books. Spending time with the product I found it to be a polished experience with depth, charm, and a certain level of wow too. My kids loved it, mom and dad loved it, and I certainly can see this sitting wrapped up beautifully under many Christmas trees come the end of the year.

It’s simple to use, download the Play-Doh Touch app (available on both Android and iOS devices) to get started. The set includes 30 pieces in total: seven Play-Doh colours (purple, red, orange, green, blue, white, and black), along with ten digital stampers, 19 different cutters and tools, as well as one Shape to Life studio.

Now’s the time you can “open a can of imagination” – roll the Play-Doh and then use one of the five character stampers (dinosaur, octopus, snail, sheep or ghost) to begin creating your new friend. You can use any colour you like (except white), adding spots here or lines there in different colours to make it unique. Place it on the studio, scan it, and it will come to life on your screen!

To explore simply control the character using on-screen touch. Collect gems to open virtual cans of Play-Doh, which then enable you to scan more creations you can make using the cutters and which will change your environment and colours. Scan an orange tree with purple stripes and orange trees with purple stripes will pop up in the area around your character, or scan a blue cactus with white dots to see blue cacti with white dots populate the background. You can also scan additional creations made with the action stampers, these may make the characters float or dance and more. As you use different colours and shapes and scan extra creations using the cutters and tools you will be able to customise the Play-Doh virtual world.

Each new character you create will unlock a unique world, giving you the opportunity to explore a tranquil under the sea area as the groovy dancing octopus and navigate in currents or using underwater geysers, or hop aboard the whirlwinds as the clumsy yet endearing dinosaur in the desert like world to locate the 10 virtual cans of Play-Doh. The videogamer in me was excited to be able to explore the different worlds and navigate levels using these tricks in the environment, while the artist in me couldn’t wait to add colours and my creations to the mix. And did I mention my daughter absolutely loved it!

Play-Doh Touch Shape to Life Studio is innovative, charming and fun. Nothing fuels your passion like being able to see your creations come to life, and the best thing is that you can save your virtual creations in the app. No more tears at destroying your Play-Doh masterpiece!

Play-Doh Touch Shape to Life Studio is available from leading toy stores and online retailers for a recommended retail price of R540. You can also buy additional new worlds for R27.99 each, meaning your kids will want to come back to this one again in the coming months too.
