Sugar & Spice Spa is all things nice at the de Charmoy Estate

I was invited to a morning of pampering at the new Sugar & Spice Spa at the de Charmoy Estate. Excited to have a short break from the busy job of being a mom I headed off early, leaving my husband to look after my two surprised kiddies. Find out more about my experience at this stunning new Spa and how you can win the most awesome pamper prize for yourself by reading my feature below.

The Sugar & Spice Spa is set in a quiet cottage and features two treatments rooms. It’s the perfect place to escape from the hustle and bustle of life for a few hours, the peaceful gardens with beautiful tree ferns and the bubbling jacuzzi in the cool shade of palm trees are perfectly suited to meet their design of promoting relaxation, rejuvenation and wellness.

The de Charmoy Estate is located just 15 minutes inland from Gateway and 5 minutes from the King Shaka International airport in Durban. It’s also home to the recently opened The Chocolate Garden, which is a must to visit with your children. Even better is that Dad could keep the kiddies happily entertained at The Chocolate Garden while you enjoy some pampering at Sugar & Spice, or you could meet the family there after your treatments for a tasty meal and some family fun.

The friendly Zama was waiting for me at the spa, where she carefully noted any health concerns or areas I wanted her to focus on. I had chosen the Three Purpose Oil Full Body Massage, and after smelling a few different oils I settled on the Arnica & Mint one which is said to be a good match to prevent and treat tension, perfect for any mom I’m sure you will agree! Using this oil helps to reduce pain in muscles, works on the muscular system to drain lactic acid in the muscles and works out knots in the muscle fibres.

For the next 60 minutes Zama worked her magic, being sure to ask how the pressure was and just generally doing a great job of taking care of me. The oil smelled beautiful and felt very soft on my skin, while the cool, dim room and tranquil music worked together perfectly to relax me. We took a short break after the massage, and I think I floated outside I was so calm!

I sat outside in the gown and slippers provided, enjoying a glass of cold water along with a delicious fruit skewer and chocolate chip muffin. The snacks were all beautifully presented and decorated with flowers, and an assortment of tea and coffee was also available. Could this day have been any better? Why yes, it could! Firstly, because a Lindt chocolate had been tucked inside my gown in the treatment room (yum!), and secondly, because I still had a facial to enjoy.

The Timeless Facial Treatment was 60 minutes of pure bliss. Again Zama noted any skin concerns I had and explained what products she was using throughout the treatment. This classic facial also includes an anti-ageing treatment, and is said to restore the natural luminosity to your complexion and revitalise tired skin while also smoothing out expression lines and wrinkles. Another mom win!

Sugar & Spice Spa uses the Six range of skincare, local products that left my skin feeling velvety smooth and truly pampered. The cold marbles, unique to the six facials, after the hot steam was a particular highlight for me. I must admit I think I dozed off for a while during the mask portion of the treatment, that’s how relaxing it was.

My morning was finished off by an indulgent dip in the jacuzzi, before my family arrived just in time for Amy to share my last muffin with me (isn’t it incredible how kids have the most amazing timing to share your special treats?). Together we visited The Chocolate Garden, where my two kids enjoyed climbing on the jungle gym, colouring in, building sandcastles and visiting the three giant tortoises, duck, rabbits and guinea pigs. We explored the stunning garden on the winding paths, it’s wonderful to see how much the plants have grown since my last visit. The food was delicious, and the kids sampled the Mac and Cheese balls with delicious strawberry milkshakes. The perfect end to an amazing outing!

Thanks to Lauren and the de Charmoy family for welcoming me so warmly into their beautiful new spa, I was treated so kindly and I can’t wait to visit again soon. The really amazing news is that one very lucky reader stands the chance to win this experience, two blissful treatments of the face and body, the Three Purpose Oil Massage and Timeless Skin Treatment valued at R1150!
