“You’re called WHAT?!”

You’re called WHAT?! is a funny new children’s book from author Kes Gray. It is such a unique story with delightful illustrations from Nikki Dyson that your children will be left to marvel that all the animals featured are real!

There’s a queue at the Ministry of Silly Animal Names, with each animal in the line disgruntled at their silly name and wanting to change it. As each animal approaches the counter, to be helped by a Secretary Bird of course, they share their name. Despite all the animals there having silly names, this causes much laughter among them and promises to make you laugh along with them too.

From a Cockapoo to a Monkeyface Prickleback, from a Pink Fairy Armadillo to a Blue-Footed Booby, the names really are quite silly! You will be amazed to know that each of these animals are real, and you can see photos and a few facts about the animals on the last page of the book to prove it!

Not only will your children love hearing their names, but they will also delight at seeing the animals brought to life through the illustrations. I heard Amy asking her dad about the Blue-Footed Booby one night before bed – “is he really real Dad?” Although if you ask her she’ll tell you that the Aha Ha Wasp is her favourite.

You’re called WHAT?! is a fun story to share with your children, they will enjoy reading and learning about these interesting new animals. And in true Kes Gray style they will love what the Aha Ha Wasp wants to change his name to. In much the same way as she smiles every time the Frog tells us that frogs will now sit on sun loungers in Oi Dog!, the wasp’s new name makes her smile too.

You’re called WHAT?! is available from bookstores and online retailers for a recommended retail price of R150.

Thanks to Pan Macmillan for teaching us what a Blue-Footed Booby is.
