My big book of South African animals

Animal books are a great starting point to start reading to your little ones. The pictures of the animals are bright and grab their attention, and you can also teach them the animal sounds at the same time. The new My big book of South African animals from Priddy Books is a must have for every new family, filled with beautiful photographs of the incredible animals that call our country home.

The book includes a double page spread of big bush animals, with the majestic lion, tall giraffe and mighty elephant featured. Each animal is depicted with a picture of the animal along with the animal’s name, so the book will help to develop your child’s first words and reading skills too. There is also a short fact included as well as a question that ties in to that fact, encouraging you to discuss the animals and learn more about them.

You’ll enjoy the mid-size bush animals, such as the speedy cheetah, comical baboon, and cheeky hyena. There are also pages for the small bush animals, creepy crawlies, animals of the air, and ocean animals. So that means that the good ol’ (sometimes pesky) Hadeda is included. I think this is one of the first animal sounds that any South African child learns (what does a Hadeda say? Ha-ha-ha), so it’s only fair this well-known bird features!

My big book of South African animals is a wonderful gift to give any new parent, and a great starting point for your new bookshelf if you’re a new mom or dad too. It is available at a recommended retail price of R99 from bookstores and online retailers now.

Thanks to Pan Macmillan for reminding us that local is lekker!
