In the Jungle

Axel Scheffler is an award-winning, internationally-acclaimed illustrator of children’s books, to date he has illustrated over one hundred books! He is probably most well-known for his partnership with Julia Donaldson, his first book together with her was A Squash and a Squeeze in 1992 but it is The Gruffalo that was published in 1999 that remains their most popular book.

In the Jungle is a new book from this incredible illustrator, it’s a board book with sturdy pages to push, pull and slide, and lots of animals to spot and count.  The brightly coloured illustrations of friendly looking animals and monkeys that you’re able to swing to and fro on the cover will make it a popular choice for your little ones.

The story is told through rhyming text, and you can count the beautiful animals as you explore the jungle. “There’s a very catchy song, floating on the breeze, it’s a jolly jungle rhythm and it’s guaranteed to please.”

You’ll meet a happy hippo who pops out of the water when you push the tab up, how about the three baby elephants who are walking trunk to tail and then walk right off the page to reveal two Aardvaarks when you slide the tab to the right. Yawning lions, skipping zebras and more wonderful animals await you inside the pages of In the Jungle.

Your children will love the story and meeting all of the animals, but most of all the interactive way in which they can push, pull and slide the tabs of the pages is why they will enjoy reading this book again and again. It’s also great to practise counting with all of the incredible animals on the pages to learn about and count.

In the Jungle is available at a recommended retail price of R115 from bookstores and online retailers. It’s recommended for children aged two to five years.
