The Best Kind of Bear

The Best Kind of Bear is a heartwarming story about a little bear who longs to find out what kind of bear he is.

Bear sets off on a journey around the world to find out, and along the way he meets different bears who he hopes can help him. There’s a grizzly bear, a polar bear, a spectacled bear and even a sun bear. Your children will love meeting the different type of bears, each presented with beautiful watercolour-like illustrations, and learning more about them too.

Although the bears did help him to learn many things about himself, Bear still doesn’t know what kind of bear he is. Feeling sad he thinks that he must just be any old bear, “quite ordinary and uninteresting.” His new friend, Nelly, who he met at the library disagrees and Bear is very happy to become Nelly’s Bear.

The Best Kind of Bear, written by Greg Gormley and illustrated by David Barrow, will charm you as much as your children and is a wonderful book to share together at story time. It has important lessons about friendship, individuality and belonging too. There is even a free audio book included to sweeten the bear’s honey pot!

The Best Kind of Bear is available from bookstores and online retailers for a recommended retail price of R165. It’s recommended for children aged three to five years.
