What are stars?

What are stars? is part of the Usborne lift-the-flap very first questions and answers series. It’s a wonderful introduction for children to learn about stars, including interesting facts made fun and interactive with the flaps.

Children will be able to find out what stars are, whether we can visit a star, how many stars there are, which star is the nearest, and if all stars are the same. These fascinating truths are sure to captivate young readers, who will probably beg you to take them out before bedtime to gaze up at the stars after reading this book.

The book is made accessible by its simple explanations and beautifully coloured illustrations. The flaps are some of the most creative I have seen, shaped wonderfully to be lifted with answers to the questions posed shown underneath. Both the pages and the flaps are sturdy.

What are stars? is a perfect introduction to stars and the night sky for young readers. As a mom I certainly learned a few new things while reading this book together with my children too!

What are stars? is available from book stores and online retailers for a recommended retail price of R170. It’s recommended for children aged 3 years and older.

Thanks to Penguin Random House for introducing us to this wonderful Usborne title.

The title made me think of the part in the lion king when they were stargazing and Timon said they were fireflies. The book looks adorable too!
