Who did you tell?

Who did you tell? is a stark look at the gritty reality of the struggles an addict faces. From the disappointment and devastation one can wreak on one’s own life and that of one’s family’s life, to the difficulties of the battle one must fight to overcome the addiction.

Astrid is an addict, she is an alcoholic. Her addiction has destroyed her life, it has robbed her of everything she once held dear including her job, her friends, and her mother’s trust. It has left her at rock bottom and forced her to start over again.

Trying to get her life back on track Astrid moves in with her mom again in a small sleepy seaside town. But it soon becomes clear that someone knows her secret. Threatened, scared and feeling very alone, she tries to figure out who is threatening her with the secret she thought only one person knew. She finds herself asking “who did you tell?”

I loved the pace at which the story unfolded, I couldn’t figure it out and found I was kept surprised even until right at the end of the book. Woven into the main theme of addiction in the book, you’ll also find melodies of love and friendship as well as forgiveness and ultimately redemption.

Who did you tell? by Lesley Kara is available for a recommended retail price of R290. It’s available from bookstores and online retailers, and it’s also available as an e-book. Please note I would assign a trigger warning for people dealing for addiction.

Thanks to Penguin Random House for sharing this book with me.
