We have all of the books by Rachel Bright and Jim Field, and we adore each of these titles. So we couldn’t wait to read the new book in this partnership, The Whale Who Wanted More. There are many reasons why we choose different picture books, but one of the top reasons for me personally is when the book features a message for children. In addition to the beautiful rhyming stories and stunning illustrations, the books from these creators always include a wonderful message that puts these titles firmly on our list of favourites.
The Whale Who Wanted More is a delightful under the sea tale of friendship, a story about sharing and kindness brought to life through the most strikingly spectacular illustrations. You’ll meet Humphrey the whale, he roams the oceans collecting objects and is on a quest to find the one treasure that will make him feel content.
But no matter how much stuff Humphrey collects it’s never enough. It’s only when he meets Crystal the crab that he remembers to share a lullaby, which eventually brings peace not only to his own heart but to the other sea creatures as well.
A gentle but important message on friendship, and a reminder of how little stuff we need to make us happy. The Whale Who Wanted More will steal your heart with not only it’s heartwarming story but with the fabulously colourful illustrations too, a must have on your child’s bookshelf.
