Mother’s Day: A few of my favourite things

Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens, bright copper kettles and warm woollen mittens.

When it comes to Mother’s Day there are a few traditional things that just never go out of fashion. Let’s start with breakfast and tea in bed, shall we? You can never go wrong with spoiling mom with a bit of a morning lie-in (even an extra 20 minutes before the kids come roaring through the door!), and I’m not going to say no to an extra special treat to start my day either…maybe croissants or a muffin?

As a mom finding some alone time is hard to do, in fact most days it seems near impossible to do anything without at least two little people climbing on me, sitting on me, or needing to have at least one body part resting on me at all times. For this reason, for me it would be a real treat to just have some time to read my book…alone.

In terms of gifts there are always a few favourite things that every mom would love to be spoilt with.  I am a chocolate lover so there’s always chocolate on my wishlist, to be enjoyed after the kids’ bedtime of course! I also will never say no to flowers, but I’m more of a potted plant kind of girl, although I always enjoy having fresh flowers in my home too.

My husband bought me a scarf a few years ago, and ever since then I’ve been in love with scarves. It’s a long-running joke between him and I that it’s not a real present without a scarf tucked inside too. Like any other woman I also love jewellery, and Pandora has the most amazing range for Mother’s Day including an awesome bow heart charm to add to my bracelet.

A few of my other favourite things are shortbread, and I think these hot chocolate stirrers and marshmallow flowers look fun too. I’m also a little bit in love with this eco mug, pretty and it’s kind to the environment too!

Handmade art from my kids is probably my most treasured present on Mother’s Day, and just spending time together as a family. Whatever you do this Mother’s Day, I hope it’s a happy day filled with special moments to add to your mom memory bank.
