One Christmas Wish

One Christmas Wish by Katherine Rundell is a charming Christmas story that you will love sharing together with your children.

It tells the tale of a young boy named Theo who has been left alone with a babysitter on Christmas Eve. He attempts to decorate the tree himself with old, broken Christmas decorations – a rocking horse, a robin, a tin soldier with a drum and an angel. With only gift vouchers to look forward to under the Christmas tree, his heart is lonely, and he makes a wish on a shooting star to not be alone.

He is surprised when his wish brings the four decorations to life, and so begins a magical adventure together with a horse who always seems to be hungry, a robin who has forgotten how to sing, an angel who can’t fly, and a rusty tin soldier who wants to play his drum for someone he loves.

The journey will have your children giggling, as they sit listening to the story unfold and marvel at the beautiful colorful illustrations by Emily Sutton which bring the Christmas tale to life. More than that young readers will delight in learning valuable lessons as Theo’s parents finally embrace Christmas to give him the love and enchantment that he has been longing for.

One Christmas Wish is available from book stores and online retailers for a recommended retail price of R210. It’s recommended for children aged five to nine years of age.

Thanks to Jonathan Ball Publishers for sharing this Christmas story with us.
