12 Hours to Say I Love You (Book Review)

12 Hours to Say I Love You is a wonderful love story, a story that is wrapped in sadness but layered in the thrill of love and soaked in both the passion and challenges of a married couple.

Steve has loved Pippa since their school days, but unfortunately for him she only sees him as a friend. His love for her, however, remains unchanged over the years, until eventually she realises he is the constant in her life and the knowledge that he is what she has been looking for finally dawns on her.

12 hours to say I love you

Fast forward to the future where the two are married, but Steve finds himself in the ICU ward at the hospital after Pippa has been in a terrible car accident and is now in an induced coma. Desperately worried to lose the woman he loves, he spends the next 12 hours talking to her about their past. These next hours will be critical in her recovery, and on the advice of the doctor he talks to her about their memories together to try and remind her what she’s fighting for.

So follows a moving recollection of their journey together, both the highs and the lows. Their love for each other is tangible in the book and I enjoyed getting to know not only the two main characters but also their families and friends who quite obviously have done a lot to shape the people they are now.

The narrative moves between the future and the past, and we hear first-hand from both Pippa and Steve as the story unfolds. It’s a lovely romance, but one that is balanced with the realities of the tough times we may face in a relationship and a reminder that love is always worth fighting for. I hope to read more of this pair’s story in another book!

12 Hours to Say I Love You is written by Olivia Poulet and Laurence Dobiesz.
