Durban’s first ever LEGO Certified Store set to wow fans

Clear your calendars Durban because Durban’s first ever LEGO Certified Store opens this Saturday 16 November at Gateway! And prepare to be blown away by this beautiful store, which just so happens to be the biggest LEGO store in the country and without a doubt world class too.

We were lucky enough to visit the store this morning for a sneak peek and I can honestly say that it really is an entertainment playground where both adults and children are going to have so much bricktacular fun. The shop is intended to be a playroom and to bring LEGO to life with the play tables and models, and play we did!

You’ll love to see the beautiful 3D LEGO model of the Umhlanga Lighthouse which was built by a fan specifically for the launch of the store. There is also an incredible locally-themed Rickshaw LEGO mosaic which is made out of a whopping 57000 LEGO pieces.

In addition to being able to see the amazing LEGO models on display in the store, you can check out the augmented reality digibox screen where you can simply stand in front of the screen to visualise the contents of the box sets in 3D. It was incredible to see the LEGO boxes come to life in this way.

You’ll find new, exclusive and hard-to-find LEGO offerings in store. There are limited edition boxsets, fan favourites like Star Wars and Disney franchises, Stranger Things and Friends, as well as loads of LEGO DUPLO. The range of LEGO accessories is amazing too, ranging from LEGO mugs and cups to pens and highlighters, keychains and even lunchboxes. Pop in before Christmas to pick up an awesome LEGO advent calendar and some fun stocking fillers for hubby and the kiddies too!

There is also a Pick a Brick wall where you can fill a set priced cup with different LEGO bricks and elements to build your own LEGO creations. The kids had loads of fun at the Build a Minifigure station where you can make personalised LEGO minifigures by choosing a head, torso, legs, accessory and headwear, and they loved the unique play areas where they could be creative with LEGO and LEGO DUPLO. And what kid can resist taking a picture inside a LEGO fire engine with siren?

I was also so happy to hear that the packaging and plastic that the LEGO comes in is all 100% sustainable, with LEGO’s push that by 2030 every single piece in every single set will be sustainable. The leaf components in the beautiful LEGO Ideas Treehouse on display in the store are already sustainable.

Thanks to The Great Yellow Brick Co for bringing this wonderful LEGO Certified Store to our Durban shores, and thanks too for welcoming us behind closed doors this morning for an amazing experience. We left with happy smiles on our faces and lovely LEGO memories in our hearts, and we can’t wait to visit the store again soon.

So, will you be heading down to Gateway on opening day this Saturday? There will be lots of prizes and giveaways for LEGO lovers. If you’re a member of the Brick Rewards Program you will also earn double points on all purchases made on opening day. You’ll find the LEGO Certified Store at Shop G204 on the ground floor. Drop in, browse, explore and play.

This is the fourth LEGO Certified Store in South Africa, have you visited the other stores in Sandton City in Johannesburg, Menlyn Park Shopping Centre in Pretoria and Canal Walk Shopping Centre in Cape Town?
