My First Touch and Find Farm

The new My First Touch and Find series from Campbell Books is a fantastic way to introduce your children to reading and to encourage them to develop sensory awareness too.

The Farm book is brightly coloured and features a friendly looking cow on the cover with a beautifully soft black spot on his back. Your children will want to read this book time and time again with such a wonderful cover!

Open the board book to meet a dog with a ball, turn the big flap (which is strong and sturdy too) to find a woolly sheep. You’ll also meet a soft hen, a squidgy piglet and even a naughty shaggy goat who has been naughtily nibbling on the washing. Each of these animals have a lovely touch and feel patch with different textures that your children will enjoy exploring.

Every page is illustrated with colourful pictures, and the next page is separated by the big lift-the-flap. This means you can challenge your little one to guess which animal is next, and you can even build their memory skills by posing the different questions on each flap. For example, as you turn the first flap the book asks you to remember what colour the dog’s ball was, or later whether you spotted the wiggly worm.

Touch and feel books help to develop babies’ sensory awareness. They learn to explore the world around them through touch, so these books are perfect to encourage them to use their senses and explore. Babies will be able to increase their vocabulary with this touch and feel too, by associating the texture they are feeling with the word it describes. Touch and feel also makes reading fun, which not only makes your child happy even while they are learning, but also helps to instil a love for books which is so important as they grow older.

Touch and feel and lift-the-flaps books still are a firm favourite of mine, and my kiddies too of course! I love it when reading time is interactive, and My First Touch and Find Farm makes sure that reading time is fun time.

My First Touch and Find Farm is available at a recommended retail price of R135 from bookstores and online retailers. You can also look out for My First Touch and Find Park, with the Zoo and Sea titles in this series set to become available a little later this year. This book is recommended for young babies aged 6 to 18 months.

Thanks to Pan Macmillan for letting us explore the farm through touch and feel!
