Clifford the Big Red Dog (Movie Review)

Clifford the Big Red Dog is a fantastic feel-good film that is perfect to celebrate the importance of family and friends this Christmas.

Clifford the Big Red DogSome of you may have already met Clifford before as the film is based on the books of Norman Bridwell. This is the origin story of Clifford, and sees middle-schooler Emily receiving a small red puppy from magical animal rescuer Mr Bridwell. The next morning, however, she’s shocked to find a giant ten-foot puppy in her small New York City apartment and must now navigate a new adventure together with her uncle Casey.

There are some funny moments that will have both parents and the kiddies laughing out loud. But don’t forget to pack the tissues because there are some real tearjerker parts too (don’t worry because it all works out in the end though).

There is also an important reminder about bullying and not being afraid to be different. For me it was the message that ‘the people who are unique will change the world’ that stood out. I actually found this written down in my daughter’s notebook the day after we watched the film, and for this reason alone I believe it’s a wonderful film to share with your own children.

Jack Whitehall shone as the irresponsible brother who steps up and learns a few lessons along the way too. Emily as the lead was great and John Cleese is an absolute classic, as always. If you, like me, grew up watching Faulty Towers and Monty Python you will love seeing him on the big screen again.

Clifford the Big Red Dog is a heart-warming film that I would highly recommend for the whole family to enjoy this holiday. Clifford is bound to be a big (pun intended) hit with the kids!

Clifford the Big Red Dog will be in cinemas this Friday, 10 December. You can watch a trailer for the film below.

Thanks to United International Pictures for hosting us to watch this film in exchange for an honest review.
