First Explorers: Beautiful Birds

My dad is an avid bird lover, and I’m fortunate because he passed that love onto me and now I have the privilege of teaching my children about the beauty of birds too. Although I am nowhere near as good as him when it comes to identifying birds (he knows their calls, migration habits, where they live, and even their scientific names!), I’m proud that my children have learnt a fair number from me.

So I was very excited to receive Beautiful Birds, a new addition to Campbell Books’ wonderful First Explorers book range.  This small board book is great for little hands to hold, and with bright and bold illustrations it will be sure to capture the attention of any young child. It will also engage them thanks to the push, pull and slide mechanisms which allow your children to help a Toucan to open and shut his giant bill, a mummy bird to deliver a worm to her chicks in their nest and more exciting actions.

Each double page features a beautiful scene, introducing the reader to many different birds and challenging them to identify three birds. It also features a short sentence to read along with a fact about a bird and poses a question which prompts the child to search for the answer. I love that as your children grow they can learn to identify more birds in the book too…a great way to start your budding little bird watchers on their journey!

Beautiful Birds is available from book stores and online retailers for a recommended retail price of R95. It’s recommended for children from birth to three years.

Thanks to Pan Macmillan for sharing this book of Beautiful Birds with us.
