We are One

We are One is the new children’s book from local author Refiloe Moahloli. It’s a book that celebrates our differences and similarities, offering the opportunity to discuss valuable lessons with our children in a gentle way.

You’ll meet many diverse children as you read the story, with each spread highlighting how we may look different and sound different but how our hearts are the same. It is in its diversity that the book truly shines, not only are the children featured from different ethnicities but some have disabilities such as being deaf and blind.

I love how our national anthem is used to highlight this diversity, and of course the last page of the book featuring Nelson Mandela really puts the focus on the spirit of ubuntu.  This book is a great way to teach kindness to your children, and to show them how their actions can affect others.

We are One is beautifully illustrated by Zinelda McDonald, the story brought to life by vibrant colours with our stunning local flowers including Proteas, Strelitzias and Aloes featured as well as a few of our lovely birds and animals and even our wonderful mountain ranges.

We are One is available from bookstores and online retailers for a recommended retail price of R144. It is also available in Afrikaans as Ons is Een and in Zulu as Simunye.

Thanks to Pan Macmillan for sharing this book with us.
