Zack is Back!

Zack is Back! is a collection of three short stories for children written by Jaco Jacobs. The stories are the perfect length for those young readers just starting out reading chapter books together with a parent and make a great choice for story time.

Zack Berry is a young boy who lives in a bright yellow house on Zucchini Street. His life is filled with adventures with his best friend Vincent and dog Frankenstein, doing his best to cope with his bossy older sister Kate and trying to avoid his nosy neighbour Mrs Longbottom. Trouble always seems to find Zack, like when he and Vincent decide to be superheroes and end up catching the wrong peach-stealing thief. Whether he’s hunting ghosts or playing rugby there’s lots of adventure and mischief!

I think that children laughing while reading a book must be one of the most wonderful sounds in the world. The stories of Zack’s adventures are filled with so much humour that Amy was giggling as we read this book together. I also loved that there were so many South African references, celebrating the fact that local is very much lekker with Jaco Jacobs.

As usual when reading chapter books with my children I find the illustrations to be very important to hold their attention, and Alex Van Houwelingen doesn’t disappoint with fun illustrations that will have your children begging for one more chapter each time you read.

Zack is Back! is available from bookstores and online retailers for a recommended retail price of R185. This book includes three funny stories: The Masked Green Mamba, The Spooky Story and The Miserable Match. The stories were translated from the popular Zackie Mostert series.

Thanks to Pan Macmillan for sharing this fun book with us.
