I See an Elephant

I See an Elephant is a new children’s story from local author Elaine Macdonald. It’s a wonderful short story to read together with your little ones, and they will love meeting the fun characters that have been so vividly brought to life by illustrator Vanessa Mearns.

It’s a book that sees an Elephant building a nest in a tree because he wants a lovely view. The birds, however, are not happy at this latest development in their neighbourhood. They band together to chase him away, but after he shows them that he should be able to live as he chooses they eventually accept him and even help him to become a dashing Ele-bird.

The rhyming story reminds me of the wonderful pace that we have enjoyed reading in other great children’s books. Even after just one read my daughter was able to predict the rhyming words, demonstrating the value of rhyme in children’s books.

I See an Elephant is a book that features beautiful bright illustrations to match a wonderful story with a gentle message that you can be whoever you are, even if that’s an unlikely Eli-bird! It’s also a great size book for kiddies to read, either by themselves or together with mom or dad.

I See an Elephant is available from bookstores and online retailers for a very reasonable recommended retail price of R80. It’s recommended for children aged three to six. There are such wonderful children’s books being published in our country, so be sure to remember that local is definitely lekker!

Thanks to Penguin Random House for letting us meet this delightful Eli-bird!
