Kirby and the Forgotten Land (Game Review)

Kirby and the Forgotten Land is the new adventure platformer to arrive on the Nintendo Switch.

Kirby’s copy ability is what makes him special, he can suck up various items and enemies and then take on their abilities. But this game takes it to the next level, giving us Kirby like we’ve never seen him before with new copy abilities. Kirby can suck up a car and become Car Mouth to roar over obstacles and race past enemies, while Vending Mouth Kirby can shoot soda cans at enemies and Stairs Mouth Kirby can give you access to high places.

Kirby and the Forgotten Land

You’ll be challenged to save the hidden Waddle Dees on each level, but there are also other fun objectives to achieve. For example, you may need to light lanterns or collect flowers on different levels.  You’ll unlock new levels as you progress and there is a lot to explore to complete the game, but also the opportunity to return to the previous levels and repeat them to achieve the outstanding goals.

The game is set in an abandoned world, but one that is filled with vibrantly coloured vegetation and imaginative enemies. We certainly loved exploring the world and found the different areas to be as creatively brilliant as we’ve come to expect from a Nintendo game. There are puzzles to be solved, figures to collect, challenges to unlock and Waddle Dees to save, giving the game a variety of gameplay that will keep you coming back for me.

Waddle Dee Town is great fun to explore. You can visit the shop to earn upgrades to your weapons, jump in to help out at the restaurant during lunch rush time, spend your hard earned stars to buy more figures from the vending machines, head to the cinema to watch movie clips from the game or even battle the bosses in the colosseum. The kids absolutely loved the additional content available in the town and spent quite some time happily discovering all that it had to offer.

It is easy to pick-up-and-play making it a fantastic game for even young gamers to enjoy, and it’s the perfect game to enjoy playing together as a family too. Kirby and the Forgotten Land even supports a two player co-op mode so get ready for Bandana Waddle Dee to join the fun! Co-operative play always means more fun as you explore and face enemies together, but it also means that a less skilled player has the option to join in while the player who is Kirby does the heavy lifting.

Kirby and the Forgotten Land captured our imaginations and our hearts, it certainly is “a mouthful of a 3D adventure”. If you have a Nintendo Switch you should definitely add this new title to your library, but it’s also a great reason to join the Nintendo Switch family.

Kirby and the Forgotten Land is available from the Nintendo eShop for R1129.  There is a free demo available if you’d like to  get a taste of Kirby’s new 3D adventure.

Thanks to Nintendo for sending me this videogame in exchange for an honest review.
