A Lift-the-Flap Fairy Tale: Goldilocks

Many of us have heard the story of Goldilocks before, whether that was growing up when our parents read it to us or reading it many years later to our own children. What I love about this Goldilocks is that it’s the traditional fairy tale retold in a different way, complete with lift-the-flaps and even an audio CD.

Goldilocks, who now wears her hair in funky dreadlock style, sees a little house while skipping through the wood one day, and decides to barge in and then snoop about! The bright and bold artwork matches the new tale perfectly, and lift-the-flaps always make reading that much more interactive and entertaining.

The story is true to the original in that Goldilocks first tries out the three bowls of porridge, then the three chairs in the lounge, and finally the three beds upstairs.  The three brown bears return to discover not all is as they left it in their house, and Goldilocks wakes up to quite a fright and runs straight home.

Thanks to the funny retelling it does offer small twists to the tale, and it promises to bring a smile to your reading time. I bet you’ve never looked inside the bear’s fridge before, or what about peeking inside their washing machine?

Amy really enjoyed Goldilocks, and I have often found her paging through this book since we received it and chatting away about the story to herself. She also often requests the CD of this book, which is a wonderful accompaniment to the tale and really helps to bring the story to life. The CD is read by Anna Chancellor and includes different sound effects and music to really make it a fun story to listen to. Don’t be surprised to hear Goldilocks scream in a very Hitchcock kind of way!  The CD has two tracks, you can choose to listen to the story alone or follow along with the book and turn the pages when the chime rings. It stores neatly inside the back cover of the book.

A Lift-the-Flap Fairy Tale: Goldilocks is available at bookstores and online retailers for a recommended retail price of R99. This new Lift-the-Flap Fairy Tale picture book and CD range also includes Jack and the Beanstalk, Little Red Riding Hood, The Three Billy Goats Gruff, Cinderella, and The Three Little Pigs.

Thanks to Pan Macmillan for introducing us to Goldilocks with funky dreadlock style!
