Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope is a fun new strategy game for the Nintendo Switch.
We’ve loved exploring this new adventure with Mario, Rabbid Peach and their friends. We set out on a galactic journey to help defeat Cursa and save the galaxy. This mysterious entity is moving through the galaxy attempting to consume all the energy of the Sparks, powerful creatures formed by the fusion of Lumas and Rabbids.
It’s a large game to explore (don’t worry you do unlock a teleport option), in addition to the main quest story there are lots of side quests that will keep you busy for a long time. The open world planets are packed with secrets and side-quests, and we’ve enjoyed meeting the different characters as we progressed in the main quest’s story.
You’ll be able to choose from different heroes to have on your team and it is here that the game truly shines. Each hero has a special ability so, whether you’re looking for an all-rounder like Mario, someone who can heal to bolster your forces like Peach Rabbid or more of a stealth approach like Luigi, there really is something for everyone. As gamers when we play each of us chooses different heroes to team up with, and it’s been rewarding to see the kids master the heroes’ different skills as well as the tactical strategy required in the turn based battles.
The game is weighted well. Younger players will love exploring the different areas which are varied in their colours, characters and more. During the turn based battles it’s easy enough for them to pick up and play, and learn with some practise how to be more strategic in their playing. At the same time more experienced gamers will be challenged to clear the battles with better scores and find depth in levelling up the characters, developing their skill trees, exploring the various weapons and abilities available, and even upgrading the Sparks. Add to this the different difficulty modes available, ranging from invincibility mode for players who’d like to focus more on the story, to more challenging modes and this really is a great game for the family to enjoy on game night.
Having spent many hours playing now I would recommend letting Ubisoft spark your imagination with the new Mario + Rabbids game. In addition to the awesome crossover of heroes from the worlds of Ubisoft and Nintendo, there is exploration, battles, strategy, puzzles and adventure to be found in Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope, and as with any game featuring the Rabbids there’s lots of humour too of course!
