Mother Goose’s Nursery Rhymes Book and CD Pack

You may have heard of the benefits of nursery rhymes before. From what I’ve read they are excellent for your children because of their repetitive nature and with them being short they are enjoyed by even small kiddies, paving the way for a love of books from an early age. One of Amy’s favourite books from when she was very small was a simple nursery rhyme book, it had the classics and we would read it together almost every day. She still loves nursery rhymes, and because of her having read this book so many times before she knows most of them by heart already.

So, you can imagine that we were delighted to read the new Mother Goose’s Nursery Rhymes Book and CD Set. It’s a smallish board book and it includes an amazing CD with all 12 of the rhymes too! The collection of nursery rhymes includes Little Miss Muffet, Jack and Jill, The Grand Old Duke of York, Polly Put the Kettle On, Old King Cole, Humpty Dumpty, Jack be Nimble, Here we go round the Mulberry Bush, Sing a Song of Sixpence, Little Jack Horner, Monday’s Child, and Mary, Mary, Quite Contrary.

I love the collection of rhymes, these are some of my favourites and they are each well laid out with a brightly coloured illustration to go along with each rhyme. Axel Scheffler has brought the rhymes to life, he’s an award-winning illustrator who is well known for his work together with Julia Donaldson on some of her most popular titles, including The Gruffalo.

I find that when I read nursery rhymes to my children that for the most part I end up singing them, so to have a read along CD included with this book is a real win for me. Amy and Ethan absolutely love listening to the rhymes together, and I find she enjoys following the story in the book or just resting a bit after a busy day at school while listening to the CD. It’s also a great option to pop the CD in the car and have some new music for when you’re out and about. The CD slots neatly into the book cover so it’s easy to store together if you choose, but it does also come in a CD sleeve to keep it protected if you have it in the car.

Mother Goose’s Nursery Rhymes Book and CD Set is available at bookstores and online retailers for a recommended retail price of R145.

Thanks to Pan Macmillan for bringing back those early reading memories with the classic rhymes in this book.
