New All-In-One Spelling Made Fun in Grade 1

We chose the homeschooling option for Amy once schools re-opened during the lockdown. So I was very excited to receive this New All-In-One Spelling Made Fun in Grade 1 workbook to work through with her. Once she saw the book she begged to start working on it, a testament to how fun and bright the book looks to young learners.

The workbook focuses on encouraging children to learn to spell and work with sounds. It emphasizes the acquisition of the different sounds, and the reading and writing of words that contain these sounds. There are 15 worksheets, a list of the first 110 most important sight words and almost 30 full colour card, board and movement games with the prescribed sounds as well as sight and spelling words.

We have both enjoyed the time we’ve spent with this book. It’s been a great source of revision of the work we have already covered from the school’s curriculum, but we have also learned lots of new lessons from the worksheets. As the name of the book suggests, the worksheets are presented in a fun way which has meant she has liked doing them. I have seen an improvement in her letter formation after practicing using the worksheets and she has enjoyed the read and write worksheets too.

There are a variety of spelling and phonic games in the book which are a great way to encourage learning through fun movement and action. The reading and sound game was a firm favourite with her, and I was pleased to see how she started to pick up on the new sounds too.

If you’re looking for a great homeschooling resource I would recommend the New All-In-One Spelling Made Fun in Grade 1 workbook. Even if you’d just like to revise what your child has learned during this past year I think it’s presented in a fun way that your child will enjoy completing the worksheets and playing the games. Each activity comes with clear, detailed guidelines for the parent or teacher. I should also note that this book is CAPS compliant.

New All-In-One Spelling Made Fun in Grade 1 compiled by Mart Meij is available for a recommended retail price of R105. It’s also available in Afrikaans.
