The Boy and the Moonimal (Book Review)

The Boy and the Moonimal is a sweet picture book about love and hope that makes a wonderful bedtime story.

The book tells the story of Moonimal, a soft toy found by a boy and who becomes his favourite toy. The two are always exploring and adventuring together, until one day Moonimal is lost. Moonimal is discovered by different animals who keep him safe, but always longs to be found by his boy and hugged tight again.

Until the day that a dog finds Moonimal, who just so happens to be owned by Boy. Now grown into a man the boy still recognizes his Moonimal, fixes him up, hugs him tight, and gives him to his young baby.

As we read this book together my son excitedly guessed what was going to happen next, and that night when I asked him what a Moonimal was he said without hesitation that it’s something we love. For me this makes The Boy and the Moonimal by Debi Gliori a heartwarming tale that will appeal to children who have a strong bond with one of their own soft toys because it shows how much their toys love them back.

Thanks to Jonathan Ball Publishers for sending me this book in exchange for an honest review.
